As a tradition, every city organizes the day before (on 5th of January) a big parade around the streets which symbolizes the arriving of the kings. This characteristic parade is formed by hundreds of children disguised who are riding on decorated big carts full of bags with sweets. While the parade goes the children on the carts throw thousands of sweets to the anxious crowd that has been waiting for hours. In each of the main three carts are riding the wise magic kings who, in gala dress, greet to the children and throw sweets aswell. This traditional parade takes around 6 hours and has a specific itinerary, which you can check out in Sevillaguia website. Welcoming the new year is always an important event that everyone love to celebrate. Seville is not an exception and, as usual, it celebrate it by eating!. One hour before midnight many locals go to Plaza Nueva, where the Town Hall is. The reason many sevillanos come here is because of the clock of the local building. You might don´t know, but in Spain is a tradition to count the last 12 seconds of the old year. The funny thing is that while you are counting the seconds you have to (or at least try) eat 12 grapes. Every second you have to eat a grape, so unless you have a trained throat you will end up with your mouth full of grapes!. This tradition has become very popular and many visitors love to try this activity.
